My second trip was another quick and dirty outing. I spent an hour and 20 minutes walking all over Virginia Key. It's amazing/sad that I went to high school here and never bothered to explore. It's also pretty awesome that such a small piece of land could have so many different habitats: from shoreline to pine uplands to marsh, etc. I didn't cover the whole key and I know there were species there that I saw but couldn't photograph or heard but didn't see, so I'll definitely be returning. No evidence of breeding, but I'll have to return in a few months.
There are a lot of unidentifiable bird pictures I didn't post. A combination of bad light and my inexperience (mostly my inexperience). I may start a section of the blog entirely devoted to bird pictures I can't identify.
